Acne Care
Acne Treatment Center at Children’s Skin Center
Acne is by far the most common skin condition in the US. Each year, over 50 million Americans are affected by this chronic skin condition, which is characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and lumps (nodules or cysts) on the skin. Most acne occurs on the face, but it is also commonly found on the chest, shoulders, back, and buttocks. While acne affects patients of all ages, generally beginning in puberty, many adults still experience acne through and beyond middle age.
Acne is often caused by overactive oil glands, which produce too much oil and clog pores, and acne can be triggered or worsened by hormones, stress, medications, hormones, and diet. Acne is one of the biggest concerns of most teens and adolescents, and while it can be traumatic and difficult to deal with at any age, adolescents suffering from acne are at increased risk of low self-esteem, anxiety and depression.
The Children’s Skin Center’s board-certified dermatologists and certified physician assistants have extensive experience in treating acne, and educating patients in the proper home care routines. Patient education is so important when it comes to acne, especially because pediatric acne patients tend to overuse products, pop pimples, or scrub their faces too hard, which can exacerbate acne and cause scarring.
The good news is that there are many effective treatments available for acne. Our pediatric dermatology practice is committed to educating our patients, as early treatment and instruction in proper acne care can be tremendously effective in reducing or eliminating acne. We educate our patients to help them understand the possible causes of their acne, and develop a plan which may include education, cosmoceutical products, medication, or in-office therapies, including:
- Glycolic peels
- Microdermabrasion
- Beta lift peels
- Fraxel laser treatments to reduce acne scarring
- Acne surgery
- Intralesional corticosteroid treatment for acne cysts
There’s no need to suffer with acne any longer! Today’s treatments are more affordable and convenient than ever, and patient education and early treatment can help to prevent scars, and give patients a whole new outlook on life.
